Speech by Mr. Xie Yuan, Director General of Dept. of American and Oceanian Affairs for the Intercontinental Australia - China Desert Adventure
Honourable Governor-General of the state of New South Wales of Australia Madam Marie Bashir,
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
As the expedition group leader of the Intercontinental Australia - China Desert Adventure Australian section, on behalf of the host organization -- the Chinese People''s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Association of Australia China Friendship and Exchange (AACFE), as well as all the group members, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to this banquet held by State Governor-General Madam Marie Bashir.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Australia and China. To commemorate this memorable anniversary, our association, jointly with AACFE, hosts this adventure. Two deserts will be conquered during this adventure. They are the Australian inland desert cluster, one of the world''s largest inland desert clusters and the Chinese Kumukuli Desert, the world''s highest desert in altitude.
Today, our intercontinental expedition group, composed by adventurers, scientists, sports stars, environmentalist and journalists from Australia, China, New Zealand and Japan, has successfully accomplished the Australian inland desert cluster traversing. In October, they are going to embark on another journey of conquesting the desert with the highest altitude.
Ever since the founding of our association, "Enhance people''s friendship, Further international cooperation, Safeguard world peace and Promote common development" have always been regarded as our tenet. Under the guidance of this tenet complying with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, on the international stage in 21st century, our association has been constantly communicating with friendly organizations and people from different sectors on behalf of Chinese people to implement China''s independent foreign policy of peace and carry out multi-level comprehensive people-to-people friendly exchanges. This expedition held jointly with AACFE is a new trail of innovative people-to-people friendship work towards Australia.
We hope, through this activity, the understanding and friendship between Australia and China could be strengthened, and exchange and cooperation in trade, culture and other sectors may reach a new stage. At the same time, this activity could be a good opportunity for mankind to better understand the trend of global desertification so that we can work hand-in-hand on protecting our common home!
At the end, I would like to thank Madam Marie Bashir again for your warm hospitality. Thank you!
